Problem with resource usage - temporarily blocked
Hi Debenben. Just a quick note, that the team has needed to block your work on toolforge because of resource usage issues. It has hammering the grid, and causing problems elsewhere. Please do not restart the processes before talking to the team. They are writing up details (after the ongoing meeting is concluded) and will update this message then; they'll let you know who to ping for details (either here or IRC) at that time. Thank you for your patience and understanding! Quiddity (talk) 16:09, 5 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Quiddity: Sure. I did not want to cause any problems, I thought the jobs would stay in the queue until resources become available. Sorry.--Debenben (talk) 16:31, 5 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Debenben: I think I may have found a way to make the job grid automatically limit the number of jobs that run in parallel for you. I will test the fix and then let you know if it works so you can start your work again. Let's follow up on task T196486. --BryanDavis (talk) 17:41, 5 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Debenben: you should be able to login to tools-login again. See task T196486 for details on what I have done to help keep your jobs from all running at once. --BryanDavis (talk) 18:10, 5 June 2018 (UTC)
- @BryanDavis: Thanks, I'll restart the script now. In case it doesn't work and I am not fast enough to kill them, you have to block me again.--Debenben (talk) 18:31, 5 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Debenben: I killed the current set of jobs to stop the flood of failure emails, but I don't think they were flooding the system now that I look back. I think what was happening this time was that they were genuinely failing on each run as the jobs came up for run. Perhaps you need to try running a single job to make sure it succeeds? --Bstorm (talk) 19:04, 5 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Debenben: I think I know what was wrong. You need to send jobs to the "task" queue (qsub -q task). They were going to the web queues, which caused the error messages. Then you'll be fine. --Bstorm (talk) 19:32, 5 June 2018 (UTC)
