Running local / in WMCS
For people like me coming from google, it would be nice to link to resources that describe how MW can be run locally or within wmflabs / wmcloud using kubernetes. physikerwelt (talk) 14:20, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- The Helm charts for Wikimedia production are very, very specific to that environment and the specifics of the bare metal Kubernetes cluster there. There is some early talk about trying to move the Beta Cluster MediaWiki deployments into a Kubernetes cluster. That project probably would not be attempting to produce generalized Helm charts though either. I made mwdemo a while ago to show one way to run MediaWiki on the Toolforge Kubernetes cluster, but that is probably not at all what you are hoping for with this question. -- BryanDavis (talk) 15:24, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
Dumps as an external traffic exception is sort of confusing
The dumps.wikimedia.org website is a static site hosted on clouddumps100[12]
physical hosts. I assume the note about dumps is actually about dumps generation rather than serving dumps XML files. The dumps generation role is currently fulfilled by various snapshot*
physical hosts. That is hoped to move to Kubernetes at some point so that scap can stop deploying MediaWiki to those hosts. -- BryanDavis (talk) 20:09, 11 March 2025 (UTC)
