Possibility of new grid engine project for tools that cannot migrate

In the past Bstorm and I have discussed the possibility of finding tools which are coded in such a way that they rely on Grid Engine. Our hope has always been that there are very few of these, but tools built to take advantage of Grid Engine features like array jobs may have great difficulty migrating. One possible solution for this problem could be to start a new Cloud VPS project hosting a Grid Engine deployment outside of Toolforge. The Foundation's Cloud Services team would likely not want to be in charge of that project, but could provide help in getting it initially setup and handed over to folks in the community who would run it. Doing this really would require finding a group of maintainers willing to commit to keeping the new grid running. There would not be any real benefit to the technical contributor community of making such a split just to see the new grid abandoned. -- BryanDavis (talk) 20:02, 4 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
