We have this as an optional form field on the payments form where a donor can type in their company if they have a matching gift program.

If we match their employer name to an organization that has a matching gifts program (on the list below), then we send them an email from Acoustic via a program (MatchingGifts_Program). This email sent by the program contains a button or buttons that pulls urls from this table in Acoustic (to see the rules that generate the button link, click Advanced - Rulesets - Button-Matching Gifts).

Because we only send the email from Acoustic when the contact first enters the program, when a donor enters their employer on the donation form when they already have an employer in Civi that was "provided by donor", they will not receive a new email (even if they have a new employer), rendering the employer field non-functional for donors who use it for a second time. It would also be nice to add something directly into the thank you email for a new donation when someone has indicated an employer in the past, even if they don't enter an employer again.

Updating the company list

We get the companies from HEP? and this list needs to be updated once in a while. It was last updated in 2020. [add how to do that here]
