Tool Labs member request

I saw your request to join the Tool Labs project and wondered how you plan to use Tool Labs as part of your mesh networking project and what benefit this will have for the larger Wikimedia community. It sounds like an interesting project that would be useful for some, but I'm not sure how it connects with Tool Labs. --BryanDavis (talk) 20:20, 4 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

My goal is to setup a cloud based system similar to open-mesh. Though my thoughts are still finding their home, I want to try and use containers to offer services. I am thinking in terms of k-12 school using it for setting of an IoT and reaching outward towards the community. Ideally the services would allow for equal access to information and alerts for those who do not have internet access. I have other ideas as far as meshing goes, I believe I saw a Ted Talk and came up with a solution. Hopefully what I have in my head will fit in and be beneficial to all concerned... Though the only way to really find out is to use this as an opportunity to get to work and find out. Thank you for the opportunity.
I am still confused about the connection to the Wikimedia movement generally and Tool Labs particularly. Will you be creating services on Tool Labs that respond to events that occur on Wikimedia wikis and broadcasting them to somewhere else? Open mesh is a peer-to-peer wifi system. I'm confused about how that fits directly with our hosted platform as a service for the benefit of the larger Wikimedia movement. --BryanDavis (talk) 22:46, 8 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Me too... I will back burner this idea and move on for the time being. I guess I am unsure of mediawiki and its purpose.
