About me

Hello there! I'm Josephine, a recent Computer Science graduate currently living in the wee town of Hamilton, New Zealand. I first started contributing to Wikimedia in 2015 as part of the Outreachy programme, where I worked on the Upload to Commons Android app . Suffice to say I got hooked on to it, and am currently applying for an Individual Engagement Grant in hopes of continuing work on the app. :)

IEG proposal: Improve 'Upload to Commons' Android App

My IEG proposal revolves around the following goals, and the full proposal can be found here. Drop by and let me know what you think! :)

• Make the app more user-friendly and convenient to use for both newcomers and experienced users
• Encourage submission of appropriately-categorized and useful pictures to the Commons database.
• Grow the contributor base by promoting this app as an easy and non-intimidating way for newcomers to start contributing to WM and Commons

Outreachy Dec '15 - Mar '16

I have worked on the Upload to Commons Android app since Oct '15, initially as a part-time contributor and then full-time from Dec '15 - Mar '16 as an Outreachy intern. My Outreachy project involved improving the image categorization functionality of the app by offering relevant category suggestions based on geolocation, and making category search more flexible. This project has been completed and the new features are included in the current version of the app.
