Where to distribute this information

List of pointers to eventually distribute this information:

OAuth and bot passwords

The page currently says that Toolforge users probably don’t need take any additional steps. However, I’m pretty sure that this change affects bots that use OAuth or bot passwords security-consciously with a restricted allowed IP range, e.g. 172.16.0.0/21, and they should change it to 185.15.56.1 (or, rather, add that in the transition period). Am I wrong? —Tacsipacsi (talk) 16:53, 26 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

You are right, I'm updating the page with this information. Thanks! --Arturo Borrero Gonzalez (talk) 11:57, 28 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Arturo Borrero Gonzalez Could we also include reminder information to people how they would identify if this applies to them. As a low-end bot user and just using available tools and setting them up ages, I would like some better direction. — billinghurst sDrewth 23:24, 29 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hard blocks of tools will block all tools; use of MediaWiki:Autoblock_whitelist

If an adventurous or overly protective administrator hard blocks a toolforge tool to include the IP address then all tools on the wiki will be blocked.

There should be crafted a section that addresses this issue. It needs to have something that talks to toolcreators to know how to resolve, and have an anchor point to where wiki administrators can be directed to and be able to identify and resolve issues for their wikis. — billinghurst sDrewth 23:18, 29 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Timing

@Arturo Borrero Gonzalez: Current Tech News links to this page with the news item about the change being delayed. However, this page still states it will happen on February 8. So, when will it happen? —Tacsipacsi (talk) 23:35, 5 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
