Talk:Frdata.wikimedia.org
Proposed deletion
@BCornwall Hallo! I hesitantly disagree with deleting, given that are no other pages describing this publicly-accessible subdomain. If someone searches for it on this wiki, I imagine they ought to be able to find something? There's a brief section that mentions it at Fundraising#Public_reporting, and I suppose this page could be merged & redirected there. However, I (as an amateur onlooker) suspect it's healthy to have a page dedicated to this subdomain, and instead of deleting it, simply ask the Fundraising team to document it more coherently?
I.e. Could it be made useful for any given team, with any small additions and tweaks?
But I'm perfectly happy to be overruled! I'm mostly just thinking aloud, and with preservationist tendencies. Hope that helps. Quiddity (talk) 03:51, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Quiddity Thanks for the feedback!
- The page presently gives us two bits of information: The CNAME of frdata.wikimedia.org and a small description of what that domain does. The former isn't particularly useful as tools to peruse for that information already exist (here it will just be duplicated and likely become outdated/wrong). As you saw, the description overlaps with Fundraising#Public_reporting; The single sentence from this article could be moved there.
- As this article has had one edit of any substance two years ago I just assumed it wasn't ever going to be fleshed out.
- We could poke frtech to expand this article, though! It does seem like we've got some butting deletionist/inclusionist ideals. :P
- I'm fine either way, I just figured this wouldn't have any pushback due to the orphaning of the page. BCornwall (talk) 15:37, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
- Merged and redirected! Yeah, I have strong anti-page-deletionist tendencies (deleting content from within a page is fine, but deleting entire pages makes things complicated for non-admins to follow), partially because I loathe arriving at deadlinks (both onwiki and off) via bookmarks or old pointers from elsewhere, partially because I'm an archive-diver and wiki-archeologist who appreciates being able to find "what, if anything, used to exist". :)
- Thanks! Quiddity (talk) 01:42, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
